Ingredients and spices that need to be Prepare to make Sambar:
- 1/2 cup arhar dal
- 1/2 tsp haldi powder
- 2 cups water
- 1/2 potato, cubed
- 1/4 carrot, diced
- 10 drumstick pieces
- 1/4 onion, roughly diced
- 1/2 tomato, roughly chopped
- 5-6 french beans, cut into 1 inch pieces
- 1/2 lemon sized tamarind
- 1 tsp jaggery / sugar
- 2 green chillies
- As per taste salt
- 1/2 tsp haldi powder
- 2 tsp sambar powder
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 3/4 tsp urad dal
- 1 pinch hing powder
- 7-10 curry leaves
- 2-3 dry red chillies
Instructions to make to make Sambar
- Pressure cook the dal with haldi, 2 cups water and salt upto 6 whistles.
- Soak the tamarind in hot water.
- In a cooking pan, add tamarind water extract, sugar, green chillies, sambar powder, haldi and boil.
- Add the chopped veggies, including onions. Cook for 10 mins on low-medium heat.
- Add the cooked, mashed dal, a little water, if required. Adjust salt seasoning. Add more sambar powder, boil.
- Heat oil, give a tadka of mustard seeds, urad dal, red chillies, curry leaves and hing powder. Por tadka over sambar.
- Serve with dosa or idli.
